Meet women where they already are.
Work through local health facilities, Community Health Promoters and trusted caregivers so women do not have to find a separate system.
Maternal & perinatal wellbeing / MamaWell
Every woman should be able to access respectful, appropriate emotional wellbeing support as part of maternal care.

Women should not navigate it alone
Women interact with health services during pregnancy, childbirth and after birth, yet emotional needs may go unnoticed or remain disconnected from care. Barriers can be greater for women experiencing poverty, violence, disability, isolation, difficult reproductive experiences or limited support.
MIARE combines direct support for women with stronger maternal and community healthcare systems.
How support moves
Select a step to see how MamaWell makes maternal wellbeing part of everyday care.
Work through local health facilities, Community Health Promoters and trusted caregivers so women do not have to find a separate system.
Strengthen appropriate frontline actors' awareness and ability to recognize when a woman may need additional support.
Offer respectful listening, practical psychosocial support, dignity and choice within appropriate first-line care.
Support safe referrals for specialized mental health, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, or social support.
Work toward sustained recognition, support and referral within existing maternal and community-health systems.
Two complementary interventions
Both interventions connect with selected local health facilities and appropriate referral pathways.
Structured, healing-centred group and peer support for pregnant and postpartum women in partnership with local health facilities. Women can speak about emotional wellbeing, build coping skills, strengthen peer connection, explore identity and motherhood, and learn when to seek further support.
Existing CHPs are trained, coached and supervised to reach, recognize, support and connect pregnant and postpartum women safely. MamaCare strengthens functions they can appropriately perform within community maternal care.
Partner with MIARE to strengthen wellbeing, safety and agency for women and girls, and the systems that sustain change.
